The vestiges of the former Imperial Navy are ever-present in this coastal industrial zone. Today, the waves of peace lap at the quiet Hiroshima Factory that faces a portion of the wide bay of the Inland Sea of Japan. It was built in July 1986 as an activated carbon production factory, and keep on operating.
